ABSTRACT

This study describes the recording technology and clinical applications of electroencephalogram in infant between prematureness and adolescence. Recording technology will be treated the modality of installation of the electrodes on the scalp, the electronic filter, the time of the recording and stimulation tests which must be adapted to the age of the child. In clinical applications after addressing the physiological variations in the background rhythm of EEG in states of wakefulness and sleep according to the age of the child will describe the clinical interests provided by the EEG in the diagnosis and surveillance of neuropaediatric diseases. Indeed, the assessment of the degree of brain maturation, diagnosis, monitoring and evaluating the prognosis of many diseases such as brain seizures, ischemic, infectious or toxic encephalopathy, are the main indications of EEG in children

ABSTRACT

The Wolman disease is a rare autosomal recessive disorder associated with reduced activity of lysosomal acid lipase [LAL] witch leads to the tissue accumulation of cholestryl esters and triglycerides. The authors report a case of 3 month-old infant who was admitted for abdominal distension with hepato-splenomegaly, diarrhea, vomiting, anemia and inanition. The diagnosis was made on the radiological evidence of bilateral adrenal calcifications. The patient died during the first 3 months of life. It is recommended that plain abdominal X-Ray must be obtained to check for the typical pattern of adrenal calcification in any young infant with evidence of a storage disease without dysmorphic features

ABSTRACT

The neonatal tetanus, toxi-infection to clostridium tetani, is the most dangerous clinical shape of tetanus. It's dignosis is purely clinical. The therapy has been progressing thanks to the modern equipment in the reanimation service which makes it possible to cure some dangerous cases. In developed countries, the rate of this disease has become rare, but it is a high one in developing countries. In Mornoco, the frequency of neonatal tetanus was obviously reduced thanks to the generalization of vaccination and to the prevention system. In fact, the yearly number of the cases declaring in the country in 1995 [14 cases] is eight time lower than the one declared in 1985 [104 cases]
